360VR Sesh 03 – Dachstein Windlegerscharte

Gosau glacier is my favorite dreamspot. Rather flat, but great combination of little mountaineering and easy riding with many options with breathtaking views. Windlegerscharte via Steinerscharte is one of them. This is my most extensive VR Sesh so far (12 panoramas). Enjoy this area at prime conditions – it’s absolutely stunning! The snow was perfectly safe (avie danger L1) and because it was Easter Monday, I decided for this trip instead of riding steeps, since I wanted to do something where I don’t need to race crowds in order to get a first line. That worked out perfectly, as I never had a first line at the Steinerscharte – I usually go via Dachstein peak, which saw a few dozen visitors this day.

I have only added several hotspots and didn’t mark any tours yet as they are fairly obvious. Just added some visual aids to the Hotspots styling and tuned the viewer’s code again. Anyway, I hope this helps you plan your tours more precisely. Fun fact: Despite the forecast was talking about basically windless day, the tracks of 2 skitourers just half an hour in front of me at the top were getting completely blown in – hence the name WINDleger! 😉

As for the Windlegerscharte mission itself, I started at the Dachstein Gondola top station, continued via Hallstatt Glacier, hiked to the Steinerscharte, then proceeded to Gosau Glacier, took a quick ride down and hiked to the Windlegergrat. From there I finally rode down to Bachlalm. The snow levels were quite low in the valley already, so the walk down from Bachlalm was around half an hour. My car was parked at the Dachsteinruhe. In total it took about 6 hours with all the droneing and chilled out hiking. I went without crampons and ferrata-set as it works better for me, but otherwise they are highly recommended.
